Swim School

Parent & Baby Class

Suitable for children aged 6 months - 3 years

These sessions are a great introduction to the water through a lesson environment. Your baby will be introduced to the water in a safe and enjoyable session, by learning how to move, float and relax in the water. Through the use of games, play and nursery rhymes your child will learn water skills that will prepare them for water based activities later in life.

We recommend that your child has completed all their inoculations before they start parent and baby classes.

Non-swimmer Class

Suitable for children aged 3+

Our non-swimmer classes are a great natural progression from our Parent & Baby Class and designed for children who are unable to swim without any floatation aids. Children are taught to move themselves through the water using aids such as armbands or swim discs. Armbands and discs will be removed frequently to allow children to progress to swimming unaided on both their front and back. Once all lesson outcomes have been met and the teacher feels they are competent without armbands/swim discs, children will be moved into our Bay 1 class.

Why we use armbands or swim discs.
The use of armbands and swim discs for our non swimmer classes allows us to safely teach your child the correct body position, technique and encourage water confidence they will need to progress appropriately.

Bay 1

Our Bay 1 class is suitable for a child who can swim 5 metres on their front and back unaided. In this class children will be introduced to the front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke leg kick action, encouraging the correct body position in the water before progressing to the next bay.

Bay 2

Our Bay 2 class is suitable for children who can swim 10 metres on their front and back competently. Children are introduced to the correct arm action for all 4 strokes and how to start putting the full stroke together.

Bay 3

Our Bay 3 class is suitable for children who can swim competently on their front and back, showing a good standard of back crawl (full stroke) and breaststroke legs. They should also demonstrate a basic front crawl breathing technique and be able to attempt the butterfly leg kick action. In this class swimmers will refine their basic skills progression to a good ‘full stroke’ technique.

Bay 4

Our Bay 4 class is our strongest widths class. Here children will demonstrate a good standard of back crawl, front crawl, breaststroke and show the basics of a butterfly stroke. This class will work on maintaining their technique and developing their stamina so they are ready for our lengths classes.

Lengths Classes: Level 1

The 30 minute Level 1 Classes are for those who demonstrate a good technique for all 4 strokes and will work on maintaining this technique, improving their stamina and adopting new water skills such as tumble turns, starts and dives.

Lengths Classes: Level 2

Level 2 Lengths Classes are  45 minute sessions adopting a ‘coaching’ style and targeting swimming fitness whilst ensuring good technique is maintained throughout.
